Selena Gomez shared her excitement about playing her first role in Spanish with her latest film, *Emilia Perez*.
The 32-year-old actress had the first screening of the movie at the Toronto International Film Festival on Monday, September 9. After the screening, she talked about how special the movie is to her during a Q&A session.
Gomez plays Jessi Del Monte, the wife of a drug cartel leader, Emilia Perez, who is portrayed by Spanish actress Karla Sofía Gascon. In the film, Jessi fakes her own death.
Gomez mentioned that the film will resonate with many Latin communities in America. “I think it’s also everywhere. But I’m really glad we made her Latin American because that’s who I am,” she said.
When it comes to her Spanish language skills, Gomez joked, “I can understand conversations, but don’t ask me to respond.” She also admitted that she was nervous about singing in Spanish in the film but felt thankful that she managed to do it well.
